Back Online

Text by Olle - Living on Lamai Beach - Wednesday, May 19, 2010

Today the weather is great again with a hot burning sun. The internet was still not working in the morning and I started to panic and I do not think the company had any control over the situation at all. According to the call center they had no problem at all which is very strange to hear when the other guys said something else.

When things are working here it is just fine but as soon as anything goes just a little bit wrong it can end up being far more complicated than one could ever imagined no matter what kind of problem we are talking about. After they spent a total of 4 hours the situation was still the same as before and they said they will come back and change the cables on the street even though they said they were tested and was working fine. After our evening walk I put on the computer to do some offline work and guess if I got surprised when I noticed that internet was working. Obviously the problem was in another end.

Things here in Thailand has been very bad lately as I guess everyone already knows, I refer to the capital. I have choose to not write about that because here at Samui everything is calm and I prefer letting the blog be about the life here.

Tomorrow I will go to Malaysia again so I hope you get a nice weekend.

New Cable TV

Text by Olle - Living on Lamai Beach - Tuesday, May 18, 2010

Today we went with Nala again to let the doctor see her and she will get the surgery done the 24th. This doctor is very good and really care for the animals in a fantastic way. He even have some dogs in the back of the clinic which people wanted to have put to sleep but he said he could save them but the owners did not care. He then saved the animals and care for them himself and I have heard many great stories about him.

Today we were also about the get our new cable TV installed and Nui asked when they were supposed to arrive here and they said in just a moment. An hour later they called again and asked about the directions again said they must have dove a bit to far. After that they did not show up and Nui called to see where they were and they then said they were working at the school and would soon be finished. It is as if we have been talking to different people because I cannot get the stories fit together. It then took several hours before they came. When they finally arrived we got the information that we will have to pay extra if we want to be able to see TV in both rooms and still we could only see the same channel if we did not buy an extra cable box for several thousand. If only stick with one box we could burn the remote control for one TV since we anyway have to go into the living room to switch channels. I have never been a fan of digital TV or decoder systems since I think in the end its just a messy system which feels more antique then the old one. For me the system is not very good if you have to fill a table with remote controls and boxes. Maybe the old fashion Samui cable was not that bad after all even if we would have to pay for the months the other people rented the house as well. I felt that i did not care if we even had TV or what supplier we choose. It very strange that having a decent cable TV here in Thailand is more expensive than in Sweden. Anyway we now have far better channels than with Samui Cable and the picture is razor sharp as well.

This monday when I put the computer on the internet was not working and the internet use to be the most stable thing I have ever encountered in Thailand. After some hours we tried to call the company but did not reach anyone until late in the evening and they only said that everything is just as normal here. Today they came to see what was wrong but they could not see any problem with the cables next to the computer and they needed to check the cable from the road. Unfortunately it had been raining during the morning and they said it must wait until it was dry. When the sun had been shining for a while we called them again and they came here very fast and stayed for about two hours without solving the problem. The company had been doing some big changes which obviously was more than they could handle. They said it will probably work tomorrow.

On Tuesday I plan to leave for Malaysia. It has really been total chaos lately with problems stacking up again. We just felt that everything was running smooth but again money flies out the window in a speed many times faster than they enter which is not a very pleasant feeling, not least when it has already been that way before for way to long time.
