Good Days

Text by Olle - Living on Lamai Beach - Friday, December 11, 2009

The last few days have been just brilliant. I have got some projects to do which went as a charm, and I also manage to finish it all in a few hours. With fixed price that is the same as sweeeet!

Today I went to the post office to see if a package had arrived from Sweden but it had not. It has taken over two weeks and last time it only took five working days. Also another small envelope was send for more than three weeks ago. Envelopes are not very safe to send here, I have had a few of those never showing up. If lucky the package arrive tomorrow so I will go to the office before noon, they are only working half day at Saturdays.

After that I went to Tesco, sometimes the power cuts for only a second but that is enough to make the computer shut down. First off, important work can be lost and second, the computer probably does not like those sudden power cuts and might get damaged. This is why I went to the Tesco area, power supply. This is something I never heard of before I came to Thailand but here it is almost something you just need to have if you have computer. I have been checking a few out before but did not know which one to choose so after some further research in Chaweng I finally bought one. In general they make you computer run for 15-20 minutes on the battery which is enough to finish what you are doing and shut the computer down normally. In Tesco they had one that they claimed lasted for 3-4 hours, well that girl read how long it took to charge the battery so I am happy that I do not believe everything I hear. I bought another one from a store close by only because they had a good range of products that I could compare. It has been sunshine all day long and it was very nice to take a trip to Chaweng and get out of the house a few hours during the day.

In the evening my dog friend came to the door. It was closed but he called for me a few times and then stayed a few minutes. He was here yesterday as well so now it is three days in a row. Yesterday he stayed a long time and was crying out loud because I did not let him inside the house and he could smell chicken from the frying pan. He had been playing around in dirty water and I tech all the dogs that comes here that they cannot go inside, it is better that way.

Now we will soon head out to Tesco to buy the things Nui need for tomorrow and probably also eat something. I just ate dinner at home buy I am already hungry again.

Have a great weekend, I sure will.

Returning Friends

Text by Olle - Living on Lamai Beach - Wednesday, December 9, 2009

Lamai Dog

This morning we went to Macro to buy some things. They had a big lunch going on inside which looked very strange. They had laid up tables in a very good looking way right in one of the wide lines of the store. Who the people were and why they ate in the store I do not know. They played christmas music and also had a TV team filming.

The roadwork has now left Lamai and they are now working far up in the hills in the way to Chaweng and before the road was very bad at this place and it was just perfect now. Closer to Chaweng the edges of the roads are very bumpy because of stained cement which makes these parts of the road impossible to drive in and it is also very dangerous if not knowing about it. When these parts are done the road will be 50% wider than before.

When we got back home and I had been working for a while one of my four legged friends came running. It was the guy that does not care much about food, he is just very happy to be around here. Wagging his rear end so much he cannot stand still. As you see on the picture he really likes the cam. He laid at the porch while I went to get water and to buy ice and kept Nui company. He drank some water and after one of his friends ate some bead he also dug in just for the sake of it, he drank some water and laid down again. Suddenly when I looked he was gone.

The weather has been very good today and I even got some red color on my pale skin after we went to Chaweng in the morning. That is a sign of being white. Last year I was very dark and never needed to put any sunscreen on even if staying at the beach for long. But at that time I lived in Phuket and all my friends was working on the beach and for that reason I ended up being there a lot as well. That is a completely different life than the life I live now. A mix somewhere between is my future goal.

Alien Invasion

Text by Olle - Living on Lamai Beach - Tuesday, December 8, 2009

This morning I went to get ice just as most other mornings. When I returned home and just had come out on the main road I saw a Thai guy taking off from the other side off the road and making a fast and sharp turn on to the right side of the road. Suddenly the back tire lost the grip he fell to the ground. He sat himself up but did not get up. He should be very happy that there were no cars around because then this accident could have been very dangerous. I think that he got away with some pain and a broken bike this time.

When I got home I was about to clean the rice cooking bowl and filled it with water and started to clean it with a sponge. I thought it was strange that the water got filled with small black thing and I thought it was tea from a broken tea bag that had got stuck onto the sponge. I put the bowl down to let the water calm down so I could take a better look. This was the nastiest I ever seen. All those 3-10 mm black things in the water was worms that had been living inside that sponge and they were many! This sponge sits on a plastic handle and the sponge itself is very hard and before when I tried to drain it from water I thought that a sponge like this never can be good since it was so hard it was impossible to get any water out of it. And now I got the receipt, it was not good at all. A little bit interesting to see how fast things can grow, think they can grow much bigger but I will not find out.

In the evening we went to eat noodles at a small restaurant we use to go to. Noodles is Nui's favorite food and sometimes when she get to fed up with rice she use to drag me there, which I actually only like. The weather has been OK all day today, but the sun and the clouds are fighting for their space in the sky back and forth. At times it looks almost as if the sky will turn all blue and a while later it looks as if it will start to rain, but today no rain came falling down.

Unstable Weather

Text by Olle - Living on Lamai Beach - Monday, December 7, 2009

It has been a calm weekend. On Saturday the King had his birthday but here at Samui it was quiet, at least in the area where we live. We heard some fireworks go off a little now and then but other than that it was quiet. At the television we saw parts of the celebrations in Bangkok which was very beautiful. Yesterday we also saw a speech that the King made and the voice was very slow and silent. He wished good luck to all the Thai people. Yesterday we also went to Chaweng to buy some chicken and also the cable that I needed to one of my synthesizers. We ended up going to all the big stores to buy different things and also the cable was found on a small store along the main road. When we got back home it had already become dark and I tried the cable and it seem to work fine. The less good thing is that I think the synth has got some damage from the transport and generates a buzzing distorted sound almost all the time, very sad. So it was not only the cable as I first thought.

The weather has been back and forth. Today we had a few showers, short and shorter ones with a little bit of sun in between as well. I took some time to go to the gym which was now four or five days ago so that felt very good.

I do not know if I only imagine but I think it might be some more tourist here after we stepped in to December. I just feel like there are more white people out on the streets than before or maybe the weather make them do other things and suddenly I see them. Now I will drink some green tea and relax, I am extremely tired from my gym session.
