Koh Samui (เกาะสมุย in Thai language) is the island of three million coconut trees! It is the third largest island in Thailand, with a area of 228.7 km². Only Phuket and Koh Chang are larger. It is located in the Gulf of Thailand, 700 kilometers south of Bangkok, in the province of Surat Thani.
The 55 kilometer long ring road makes it convenient and practical to travel from beach to beach. It was built in 1973. The airport was built in 1989 and totally renovated in 2007. It is considered as one of the most beautiful and exotic airports in the world.
The first version of this website was launched in February, 1999 and it has had more than 7 million visitors since then. All the people in our team lives on the island of Samui and our objective is to offer an informative and user friendly site that is updated daily.

PM Dissolves House
Thailand's Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra today announced the dissolution of the House of Representatives. This after a massive turnout of (peaceful) anti-government protesters on the streets of Bangkok. Between 150,000-200,000 protestors, led by Suthep Thaugsuban (see picture), had gathered nearby the Democracy Monument.

The Unrest in Bangkok
Is the current turmoil in Bangkok affecting Southern Thailand, including Samui, Phangan and Tao?
It is obviously affecting the local population's minds and thoughts, but as a visitor you will probably NOT even notice anything at all in Samui or on any other island in Thailand. The turmoil is currently only focused to certain areas in the capital. ALL airports (including Suvarnabhumi) are open and operating as normal.
