Koh Samui (เกาะสมุย in Thai language) is the island of thousands of coconut trees and the third largest island in Thailand (only Phuket and Koh Chang are larger). The total area of the island is about 247 km² and it's located in the Gulf of Thailand, 700 km South of Bangkok in the Surat Thani province. There is a 55 kilometer long ring road which makes it convenient to travel from beach to beach.
There were no roads here until the early 40's, but in 1973 the concrete ring road was built around Samui. The airport was built in 1989 and renovated in 2007. It is considered as one of the most beautiful and exotic airports in the world.

Karma Becomes Kanda
A consortium of the existing villa owners of Karma Samui have obtained the management rights of the resort. It has also been renamed to Kanda Residences. There are 36 privatly owned pool villas situated at the resort.
